Notes from the Road - Acres of Lions #5

From the Frozen Fields of Saskatchewan

Notes from the Road is Music Canada’s artist tour diary. Canadian artists on tour around the world will share their stories of fans, gigs and the “good, bad and the ugly” of touring!

From a frozen prairie field outside Saskatoon, SK:

We have made it a point on this tour, to stop as many times as we can and film some simple acoustic versions of songs from our new album "Collections," and what better way to make our endless travels through the impending Canadian winter more interesting and fun than to play songs that are about exactly that?

Please enjoy:

This short video took place on our way through the prairies, on our way to Saskatoon, hundreds of miles from anything but vast frozen wheat-fields, silos and farms. It is a beautiful piece of Canada and it called to us to pull over and share a moment. Unfortunately, the weather was around -25 this particular afternoon, and OH BOY, did it whip us frail Vancouver Island boys into shape!

Obvious lessons learned when performing in harsh weather conditions:
1) Acoustic guitars, or for that matter, any instrument that needs to be in tune or requires tension, may behave differently when being warped by the sudden drop or rise in temperature
2) body parts, especially fingers, toes, noses, ears, will tend to cramp up, lose feeling and turn blue within 15 minutes of exposure and will make it difficult to accomplish anything with precision if left unprotected
3) Always keep your camera/battery charged and in pristine working order. If it dies or malfunctions during the performance, you might not get another chance to do it, unless you're a tough guy/girl. In that case, you may be able to suffer through it.

Acres of Lions is: Tyson Yerex (Keyboard, Guitar), Jeff Kalesnikoff (Vocals, Guitar), Dan Ball (Bass) and Lewis Carter (Drums).
