UK’s Charli XCX Presented With Platinum Award For “Boom Clap”

UK singer/songwriter Charli XCX had quite the summer in 2014. After reaching #1 with her appearance on Iggy Azalea‘s summer anthem “Fancy”, Charli XCX earned a Canadian Platinum certification for her own song “Boom Clap”, which was featured on the soundtrack for the The Fault In Our Stars. Prior to her sold out show in Toronto, Charli XCX was presented with a Platinum award plaque for “Boom Clap” from the Warner Music Canada team, along with a plaque commemorating the #1 position of the song on Canadian CHR/Top 40 radio.

Sweden’s Tove Lo Receives Platinum Award For Single “Habits”

Following her headlining concert at Toronto, ON’s Phoenix Concert Theatre, Universal Music Canada recording artist Tove Lo was presented with a Canadian Platinum award plaque for her track “Habits (Stay High)” off her 2014 debut album Queen Of The Clouds. The Swedish singer took her to Instagram to thank the crowd for an amazing show and break the news of the Platinum certification.

Chromeo Presented With Gold Plaques For Summer Hit “Jealous (I Ain’t With It)”

After a busy summer touring the globe in support of their album 2014 White Women, Montreal, QC’s Chromeo paid a visit to Last Gang Records‘ Toronto headquarters where they were surprised with Gold and Platinum award plaques for their smash single “Jealous (I Ain’t With It)”. The awards were the first ever for the “funks lords”, who were in Toronto for a highly anticipated concert at the Kool Haus.

Clean Bandit Surprised With Platinum Awards For “Rather Be”

CleanBanditRatherBeAwardDuring a stop in Toronto for a sold-out show at The Virgin Mobile Mod Club, rising UK electronic act Clean Bandit were presented with Canadian Platinum Digital Download award plaques for their single “Rather Be”, from their debut album New Eyes (Warner Music Canada). The show marked the beginning of their first-ever North American tour and was also the only stop in Canada. In January 2014, “Rather Be” became the fastest-selling single of the year in the UK and in February became the most streamed song in a single week on Spotify UK with 1.09 million plays, surpassing Daft Punk‘s record for their hit “Get Lucky”.

Nico & Vinz Presented With Platinum Awards For Summer Hit “Am I Wrong”

nicovinzawardDuring a press tour in Toronto this week, Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz were presented with their official Canadian award plaques commemorating the Platinum certification of their breakthrough track “Am I Wrong” (Warner Music Canada). After becoming one of the most Shazamed artists worldwide, the duo kicked off a North American summer tour opening for multi-Platinum recording artist Bruno Mars. Nico & Vinz also recently performed the summer 2014 hit on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Sony Music Canada Make Pop Star Dreams Come True For 13-Year-Old London Girl

Earlier this month, Sony Music Canada presented a 13-year-old girl from London, ON with a special Platinum award plaque at the launch party for her recording of Avril Lavigne’s song “Keep Holding On”. Autumn’s dream to be a pop star came true thanks to Make-A-Wish Canada and Sony Canada. Autumn, who was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder, signed on as a Sony artist to record her cover and get the full pop star treatment.  “Her jaw was dropped for most of the party,” said Make-A-Wish grand coordinator Misha Medeiros. “She was so appreciative, and so grateful for everyone being there.”
